Morning Train Ride

Towards a silent town I go... it's quiet here, and nobody knows
That I seek refuge in this place, into the fog, so full of unknowns

Watching the trains go by, as people board and leave
So many lives intertwined, but we never truly see

The dawn promises such a strong and lovely start,
looking at the sun rays painted across the sky—God's art

Sure, I could drown in the misery of my yesterday,
but that is past now, and I'm finding a new way

As I board the gray train, finding a seat in my section
I wait patiently as I ride to my next connection

I know that soon I'll have to face those demons of my past again
But for now, all I feel is the comfort in solitude as I reach zen

I sit here listening to the clickety-clack below
So much heaviness, so much sorrow, behind me now, sitting on this row

I breathe in deep, watching as each person stares at their phone
All their lives so meaningful, and precious, and all to me unknown

They know pain and they know loss, they've felt hope and they suffered cost
Yet don’t they share, or talk, they focus on their moment of silence, with legs crossed

I sit back, relaxed with eyes shut and emptying my mind
All my life finally hushed, during this precious time

I cherish this ride, under painted skies
I wish it could last longer as I realize

This place of clickety-clatter and hypnotic noise
All of it, satisfies me, and I gain such poise

I'll sit here, enjoying the moment as I head east
For in this train, everything is forgotten and I truly am... at peace
