I sit here, in this dusty old attic, feeling relieved
Nostalgic memories rush my mind, as dust I breathe
So long I have suffered, carrying this burden--holding my own
The sun piercing through boarded windows, reminds me I'm not alone
I'll gently kiss the sun rays, as they stretch across the creaking wood
My eyes gently follow, and gaze upon a box I see—"open it? I should.”
Delights are filled, as my childhood memories are revealed
The happy time, when all joy was sought before killed
I dance now, breathing in the smell of aged memories and books
Delighted at how, I lived this life without hesitation, no second look
I am lost now, to the weight I once would enjoy
I may have grown old now, but I'm still the same little boy
My body, not able to carry on as in my prime
Now I lie down, listening to birds flirt as I pass the time
The pains of the past, still made their scars
I stop for a quick giggle, as I just saw my old toy cars
I may be the grandfather now, of a beautiful one
But my inner child never died, and still wishes to run
This old attic, holding memories of all that has become my life
I still struggle, still miss her, still love, and mourn the passing of my wife
But she is better now, no more suffering from the disease
My pain turns to joy, as I lie here, realizing she is now so free
I hold onto memories of old, so protective, so fiercely
Noticing a bird, chirping its flirty song on the window, looking in at me
Is this a sign? Could it be true?
Is this her way of saying "be free of all you went through"?
It would be something that would be true to her
Life passes so quickly, marriage to burial, such a blur
I would live it again though, this pain I feel
For she was my everything, and the love was so real
I listen now, still smiling as I lie
Listening to the chirping, closing my eyes
I dream now, encouraged only by beautiful thought
Hopefully I stay here, wishing to wake not
