Shadows blend to night's palette this first day in June
Witching hour of 3:16am, sitting by flickering candlelight in my room
A superstition manifest disrupts my writing as she purrs
A quick laugh and gentle caress of her back furs
Swallowed in swaths of amber in a dark study—melancholy merit
But a presence is missing—an absence of spirit
A familiar I had known and loved watching grow
By my side he no longer sits and now his place is so hollow
The other black familiar, with waving tail resting beside
Follows me now instead of waiting in places she likes to hide
Uncertain of future paths as the cobblestones break away
Visions of cracking and crumbling continue to lead astray
But the raging gale of unknown worries is outside now
So many other destinations to tread, still learning how
But all is safe here while the melodiously beautiful symphony of piano and cello play
Sitting in my abode in this witching hour, surrounded by flickering lights is where I wish to stay
Drained by day to fight demons that don't actually exist
My will to push forward and to claim dominion continues to persist
I'll let the shadows cloak me in comforting fortitude
All of this glorious peace, relaxing in my sanctuary of solitude
