The Everglade

Serenity engulfs as the breeze sways
Misty groves in the witching hour soothe
The temperate air as a blanket stays
Starry Night above me, shining subdued hues

Wings flapping about scattered sounds I hear
Howls of alpha and omegas in a den to be leery
Echoes emit of mosquito wings beating with fear
Amused and loving this somber Midnight Dreary

I stand and stare as the ghost gently radiates by
Unfamiliar faces morphing into forgotten memories
Mournful sorrows lost into the pupil of the mind's eye
A pattern of life reenacting the same story through centuries

Fall leaves falling in a gentle gust of lustful draft
The moonlit flowers, shining as defiantly as an outcast
Roses bloom in a moonlit sanctuary of witchcraft
Carefully catered paths of tulips somehow holdfast

As the visitor walks in this enchanted cove of wonder
All their life moments manifest before them in twilight
Emotions of longing and belonging torn asunder
Every moment, a memory of extreme sorrow and exquisite delight

Chills pass as disembodied giggles dance from left to right
Sad still though, for the laugh is alone as the happy waltz fades
A phantom is here now, delighted day has passed—loving the night
All the beauty and tranquility still can't un-haunt, this gloomy everglade
