A Rose in the Snow-globe

A man sits in an ornate room
The frigid air breaks through windows shattered
His dress, his spirit, adorned in gloom
The drapery and surroundings, decaying and tattered

Sadness comfortably rests itself upon his face
His desires devoured by a relationship's wraith
Hating how much he gives, yet he gives himself no grace
Knowing only one-way love has murdered his faith

The man sits, staring into an oval snow-globe
He sees a vision of a rare beauty, a mirage that felt true
Unkempt, uncaring, wasting away in his dirty robe
Watching the woman who laughed beside him and ran his heart through

His heartache spreads into merciless longing
With every laugh she shares with another man, completely beguiled
His agony swallows him, through his desire of belonging
She giggles in a snowball fight with her partner and their child

He recalls her sweet words of "I can't lose you"
While manifesting distance when he got too close
His own emotions deprive him of joy as he begins to rue
Opening to a sweet woman while another man she chose

Swirls and twirls, with her never-ending joy
Giggles and tickles with the family she craves
A life she chose and another life she would destroy
The hope of "maybe" resting among the graves

"Why would she do this?" he asks
So many questions and confessions haunt his spirit
Tears of joyful sorrow fall down his cheek as she laughs
So useless to utter his full feeling since she would never hear it

A man sits in an ornate room still
The object of his desire causes a rush of care
Staring at the woman he loves, just to feel
He sits in the frigid cold, and continues to stare
