The leaves fall, this Autumn's eve
Halloween hues spread throughout so eloquently
Time slows into nostalgic memories to relieve
All the hurts of yesterday and beyond so sweetly
A much needed flash-downpour to quench the dry
Dilutes the view of a pumpkin sun, lying to rest
Gentle footprints left from an invisible passerby
The wind carries with it the pleasant cooing of her playful jest
I sit here reminiscing of enchantment that used to delight my day
A vision of four, scattering the leaves about as they wrestle and taunt
All the colors of the autumn, somehow less enchanting now—seeming so gray
Vivid images of autumn bequeath to winter's cold dreary gaunt
Every prismatic water drop, a reflection of when she revealed her pain
All the echoes of her joy and sadness pour into splendid hallucinations
Lingering vestiges of what once was and never to be, still remain
All burdened by an absence of her soft, romantic sensations
How fitting—in a season of spooks and witches and ghosts
An enticing mirage of an exquisite witch fades with the resting sun
It's the haunting echo of her silence that is missed the most
A wishful future of giggling children and a precious mother, faded into nothing and no one
Sitting in a sadness of robbed hope in this mysterious season
An empty backyard full of puddles, sticks and crud
Foreseeing specters of all he wished for, to blend into night without full reason
All the tiny footprints he once saw, now just chambers of "what if"—temporary fossils of mud
