Seeing you, with your flowing and luscious hair
I feel inner innocence dying as I unabashedly stare
Approaching slowly, as though I’m not completely mesmerized
Putting on a front, pretending not to be affected
While you go about telling me your day, I’m hypnotized
Holding down warm feelings long thought dead, slowly being resurrected
I can’t help but be entranced with your smile and never-ending joy
As a grown man who survived fire and taunted death, I’m returned to feeling like a schoolboy
I want to walk with you, side by side
Working up the courage to share the feelings I hide
I love being there for you when you are down
I take pride, to turn your day around
To know you have opened up and let me do so too, a blessing truly
To guard your heart, an honored duty
How it got to be this way, I don’t really know
But I wholeheartedly hate it, when one of us has to go
