GHOST CHILDREN TRILOGY (2/3): Crib Death

Rock-a-bye baby, I sang the song
Dreaming of your future, and life so long

Hearing that joyous laugh, paired with that smile so coy
Such a bright-eyed and lively, bouncing baby boy

So much to teach and so much to give
How I would trade my own life, so you could live

The moment of realized silence, sheer panic
Where noise should be in your room, barging in so frantic

Little baby boy, grey shades only—blushing cheeks gone
Rock-a-bye baby, now… a meaningless song

Rushing to your little body, lips pressed to mine
Vain attempts to resuscitate, no living signs

Buried now, as those surrounding mourn
The hole engulfed you, anger to God--scorned

Now at night, sometimes we hear that same giggle
It makes the hair on our arms stand—an electric tickle

Rushing in, but you're still not there
The crib rocks though, gently and so fair

Your spirit now, dancing on golden streets above
With your passing however, we lost all capacity to love

Now nights only bring subtle joy
When we hear haunting giggles—of the joyous baby boy

Rock-a-bye baby, yearning for you to be here
Rock-a-bye baby, echoes of memories held so dear

(Rock-a-bye baby, your cradle will sway
Rock-a-bye baby, next to your cradle; in blood your parents lay)
